The Marsha P. Johnson Story

Sharing is caring!

Hello Friends! Today I will be discussing the NEW Netflix Original Documentary of ‘The Life and Death of Marsha P. Johnson’. New York activist, Victoria Cruz joins the canon of legends in the LGBTQ community. The documentary tells the story of three vital idols: Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera and the documentaries very own, Victoria Cruz. However, the story focuses on New Jersey’s very own. Born Malcom Michaels also known as Marsha P. Johnson on August 24, 1945. Marsha was very known for her outspoken activism within the rights for the LBGTQ community and she would often dress as a drag queen. She was also the co-founder of S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), along with her closest friend Sylvia Rivera. Marsha was a model for Andy Warhol and she performed numerous times on the drag scene. She was also an AIDS activist with the advocacy group ACT UP. Unfortunately, a few days after her Pride March in 1992, Marsha had gone missing. Her body was found in the Hudson River floating with massive gashes towards her head. Police ruled her death as a suicide; however, Marsha’s friends, family and member of the coalition believe it was a wrongful homicide. Her case has been pushed to the side as what some may say a cold case. Watch the Netflix Documentary as Cruz reopens the unsolved case of Marsha P. Johnson.
