What Further Stifles the Already Marginalized Gay Community?

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever wondered how oppression works? How marginalization works? How power works? Well it starts with the marginalization or dehumanization of a group of people. We have seen it happen time and time again and still experience it as people of color. Even though we know how it feels and we scream, at the top of our lungs, “Black Lives Matter”, do our actions truly reflect that? When our brothers and sisters suffering a similar if not the same plight day after day, right beside us are slowly being outcast and segregated as “different”, “not good enough”, or “too gay.” Now, we get it, everyone has a type, but just because your type isn’t the type that is present in that moment doesn’t mean demean them. In that moment it would be hard to justify how you are any different than those that discriminate against you, or your “type.” There is a valuable conversation to be had, a worthwhile community-wide conversation to be started that will only strengthen the LGBTQI community as  whole. No, there will not be one magical solution, no everyone will not agree on everything, BUT if we can converse hard enough and long enough to get on the same page, that would be good enough for us. So, please read the article that prompted this topic written by David Butler-Sims a contributor of The Huffington Post {Read Here}, and let’s talk!
